RHCP – Refugee Healthcare Providers

Case Study · Urban Refugees

Healthier Families Among Urban Refugees

How community health posts and trained health workers brought a 40% reduction in preventable diseases.

The Story

Community Health Posts, Community Health Workers

Through RHCP’s comprehensive healthcare programmes, urban refugees have seen a 40% reduction in preventable diseases and a significant improvement in maternal and child health outcomes.

The work started close to home: five community health posts, staffed by health workers recruited and trained from within the community, so families could reach care without long journeys.

Alongside clinical care, water and sanitation programmes and women’s health support groups tackle the causes of preventable illness, not only its symptoms.

A 40% reduction in preventable diseases, alongside clear gains in maternal and child health.

Just as important, the capacity now sits inside the community: health workers who live alongside the families they serve and support groups run by the women who use them.

Our Approach

Every step for urban refugees was planned with the community from the first conversation — with local leaders, health workers and families shaping what was built, and staying in charge of it afterwards.
